Meet Richard
“My job is to take that spark of an idea that a client may have a dream home and use my experience, knowledge, and creativity to turn that into a reality.”
Richard began his professional career as a sculptor and brings this experience of designing an object and then bringing it to life as an Interior Designer. His work has been shown in many shelter publications in print and online. He has won an award for his historical renovation of a landmark building in Brooklyn Heights. Throughout his 30 years of doing business in New York City, he has collaborated with numerous celebrated designers including Thom Felicia, David Anthony Easton, Tom Sheerer, and M Group. Richard’s interiors are based not only on his experience as a builder but also on the client’s wishes.

VICE PRESIDENT, Decorate
Meet Mimi
The “Decorate” member of the team, Mimi’s art gallery background has helped to hone her instincts for subtle details that make significant differences.
Her talent is evident in her unerring eye, which is best illustrated by her beautifully balanced composition of color, texture, light and shape. Dealing with demanding art buyers and mercurial artists, Mimi has also developed an unrivaled resourcefulness and unflappable demeanor. Over her fifteen years concentrating on interior design, Mimi has forged relationships with some of the finest craftspeople in the New York area, ensuring the finest quality of custom work. Mimi holds a BA from St. Lawrence University.

VICE PRESIDENT, Build
Meet Doug
A painter and master carpenter, Doug is the “Build” component of R.A. Somerby.
A graduate of Tyler School of Art with a BFA in Painting, Doug brings a light touch to a heavy lifting job. Similarly to Richard, Doug has a deep understanding of how disparate pieces on paper best come together to make a wholly functioning finish. Preternaturally calm with a dry sense of humor, Doug is undaunted by even the largest scale job. With his painter’s eye, the smallest aspects get attention to ensure that the big picture comes together beautifully.

ASSOCIATE, Design
Meet Rufus
The newest member of the team, Rufus graduated from Hamilton College with a double major in Architecture & Urban Design and Economics.
Through his coursework, Rufus developed a keen sense of modern design across interiors, exteriors, and city planning. His design expertise is focused on warm minimalism and modernism. Prior to R.A.Somerby, Rufus worked as an analyst on the Private Asset Research team at Cliffwater, where he gained skills as a real estate investor.
